Changing Voice

Voice & Audio Tuning

How to Change Your Voice Assistant's Voice

There are three self-service ways to change your assistant's voice: a quick change through the Personality dropdown in the basic editor, a more detailed path through the Advanced Editor's AI Configuration > Voice section, or letting an AI find a new voice for you through Update with AI (Beta). Either way, you do not need to contact support to try a different voice or swap out an accent you don't love.

This guide walks both customers and resellers (managing an account on a customer's behalf) through all three methods: finding the setting, previewing your options, and applying a new voice.

Method 1: Quick Change via the Basic Editor

  1. Click on the assistant you want to edit. This opens its main (basic) editor screen.
  2. Under the assistant's name, find the Personality section.
  3. Open the dropdown in that section. It lists all available voice options across every voice provider.
  4. Select a voice from the dropdown.
  5. Call your voice assistant to hear the new voice. Repeat steps 3–4 as many times as needed until you find the voice you want.

Method 2: Advanced Editor (More Options)

  1. Click on the assistant's name (the specific assistant you want to edit) to open it.
  2. Click the three-dots () button to open its dropdown menu.
  3. From that dropdown, select Advanced Editor.
  4. On the Advanced Editor page, use the left-side sub-menu and click AI Model. This jumps the main area down to that section.
  5. In the main area, under AI Configuration, click the Voice subsection.
  6. Select a voice provider first, then select a specific voice option for that provider. There are hundreds of voice options available across providers, so take time to browse.
  7. Click Save Changes at the top of the page to apply the change.
  8. Call your voice assistant to hear the new voice. Repeat steps 4–7 as many times as needed until you find the voice you want.

Method 3: Ask the AI (Beta)

  1. Click on the assistant's name (the specific assistant you want to edit) to open it.
  2. Click the three-dots () button to open its dropdown menu. The menu includes Update with AI, Advanced Editor, Knowledge, and Version history.
  3. Select Update with AI. This opens a new chat session with an AI assistant.
  4. In the chat, describe in plain language what kind of voice you're looking for: for example, “I want a friendlier female voice with less of a Southern accent” or “something more professional-sounding male voice.”
  5. The AI will help find and apply a matching voice, so you don't have to browse the dropdown yourself.
  6. Call your voice assistant to hear the new voice. Keep chatting with the AI to refine further, or switch to Method 1 or 2 at any time.

Quick Reference

Beta Feature

Update with AI is currently in Beta. It's newer and still being refined. If the AI-driven method doesn't find the right fit, Methods 1 and 2 (manual dropdown selection) remain the reliable fallback.

Menu Paths

Method 1: [Your Assistant] > Personality (dropdown)

Method 2: [Your Assistant] > ⋮ > Advanced Editor > AI Model > AI Configuration > Voice

Method 3: [Your Assistant] > ⋮ > Update with AI (Beta)

✓ Save, Then Test By Calling

After applying a voice change with any method, place a test call to your assistant to hear it live. If it's not quite right, return to the Personality dropdown, Advanced Editor > AI Model > AI Configuration > Voice, or Update with AI, pick or describe another option, and call again. Repeat as many times as needed.

Don't Like the Accent or Tone? Keep Browsing

A common request is wanting a less regional-sounding accent, or a different gender or tone, for an assistant that doesn't match how the business wants to sound on the phone (for example, moving away from a Southern-accented voice). Before assuming there's only one voice available, check the Personality dropdown (Method 1), reopen Advanced Editor > AI Model > AI Configuration > Voice (Method 2), or describe what you want to Update with AI (Method 3, Beta) and browse the available options. There are hundreds of voices spanning different genders, tones, and accents, so there is very likely another option that fits better.

For Resellers

If you manage assistants on behalf of your own customers, all three methods above are available from within that customer's assistant record. Walking a customer through any of these paths yourself (or sharing this guide with them) resolves most "can we change the voice/accent" requests without needing to escalate to Sulus support.
