Legacy Voice Retirement: March 2026 Migration Guide

Overview

On March 1, 2026, several legacy Sulus voices were retired and automatically replaced with new voices. Assistants that were using a retired voice were automatically switched to a default replacement, and new assistants can no longer be created using a retired voice. This page lists which voices were retired, their replacement options, and which voices remain fully supported, so you can confirm your assistant is on the voice you actually want. For the current voice library and how to set a voice generally, see Sulus Voices and How to Change Your Voice Assistant's Voice.

Voices Retired on March 1, 2026

The following legacy voices were retired on March 1, 2026 and are no longer available for new assistants:

  • Spencer
  • Neha
  • Harry
  • Cole
  • Paige
  • Hana
  • Lily
  • Kylie

Any assistant still using one of these names was automatically switched to a default replacement voice (Option 1 in the table below) at the time of retirement.

Replacement Voice Mapping

Each retired voice has up to three replacement options. Option 1 is the default fallback that was automatically applied to existing assistants:

The replacement voices were selected to closely match the tone and style of each retired voice, and are priced similarly. If you were auto-switched to Option 1 and prefer Option 2 or 3, you can switch at any time using the methods in How to Change Your Voice Assistant's Voice.

Voices That Are Staying

The following voices were not retired and require no action: Elliot, Savannah, Rohan, Leo, Zoe, Mia, Jess, Zac, Dan, Leah, and Tara. If your assistant uses one of these, this retirement does not affect it.

How to Switch to a Different Voice

If you were auto-switched to a default replacement and want a different option (from the table above, or any other voice entirely), you can update your assistant's voice at any time:

  • Via the dashboard, using the Personality dropdown or Advanced Editor > AI Model > AI Configuration > Voice, as detailed in How to Change Your Voice Assistant's Voice
  • Via the API, by updating the voiceId field on your assistant's voice configuration

If a replacement voice isn't listed in the dashboard's voice dropdown, use the "Add Voice ID Manually" option and paste the voice ID directly rather than searching by name.
